Kazakhstan’s ITS in January: trading volume at $1.60 bln, instruments on Tabadul, surge in demand for gold and silver

The international trading platform ITS in January 2026 onboarded a new broker, enabled investors to benefit from the global surge in demand for precious metals and brought investment products developed in Kazakhstan to the international market via the Tabadul platform.

Trading volume in January totaled $1.60 billion compared with $1.63 billion in December. Average daily trading volume increased to $80 million from $74 million. In the first month of 2026, investors on ITS executed around 329,000 trades compared with ~260,000 in the previous month.

The most in demand instruments in January were shares and exchange-traded funds (ETFs) of the following issuers: Tesla Inc. (TSLA), NVIDIA Corporation (NVDA), Freedom Holding Corp. (FRHC), Alphabet Inc. Class A (GOOGL), MicroStrategy Inc. (MSTR), ProShares Ultra Bloomberg Natural Gas (BOIL), iShares Silver Trust (SLV), SPDR Gold Shares (GLD), Meta Platforms Inc. (META) and Micron Technology Inc. (MU).

For the first time, ETFs linked to precious metals entered the top 10 most traded instruments. Trading volume in the gold ETF, GLD, reached $16.6 million. Nearly 1,500 trades in this instrument were executed by 739 unique investors. Trading volume in the silver ETF, SLV, reached $17.4 million, the number of investors exceeded 1,500 and the number of trades totaled 5,557.

The ITS platform offers a broad range of instruments linked to precious metals, including gold, silver and platinum, as well as industrial metals, such as copper and aluminum.

In January, the number of investors on ITS increased following the connection of Centras Securities, a leading broker and dealer in Kazakhstan that has operated in the securities market since 2004. The company became the 19th professional market participant connected to ITS.

Investor interest in ITS products has continued to grow. In January, the digital platform Tabadul, which unites exchanges in the Middle East and Central Asia, opened access for global investors to ETFs based on proprietary ITS indexes, the flagship ITS World (ITSW) and the halal compliant ITS Shariah (ITSS), as well as the ITS Single Stock ETF range focused on shares of international companies.

The ITS World index (ITSW), which includes shares of 50 leading global companies, reached a record level of 1,593.85 points on January 28, gaining more than 4% since the end of 2025.

In January, ITS, together with the Astana International Financial Centre (AIFC), summarized the results of the first year of circulation of ITSS, the only ETF in Central Asia and the South Caucasus that complies with Islamic finance standards.

In 2025, the return of the ITSS fund, which tracks the performance of the proprietary ITS Shariah index, amounted to 25.5 percent, including dividend payments from companies in the index. The ITS Shariah index itself, which includes 30 shares of the largest U.S. companies whose activities comply with Shariah principles, rose by 23.6 percent, significantly outperforming the S&P 500 index at plus 16.4 percent and confirming the competitiveness of the ITS Islamic product in the global market.

Also in January, ITS completed the migration of its core trading infrastructure to the QazCloud data center. This enhanced the reliability of the digital ecosystem amid growth in trading volume, number of transactions and number of brokers.
